Budget 2024 Highlights – Indian Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman has released the Union Budget for the financial year 2024-25. Due to the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the Union Budget released by the Indian Finance Minister is an interim budget. The full budget for the financial year 2024-25 will be released in July after the completion of the Lok Sabha elections in India. The FM announced on February 1, 2024, that the theme of this year’s budget will be ‘Viksit Bharat Budget 2024‘. She reiterated that the country continues its quest for Atmanirbhar Bharat. Meanwhile, the welfare and aspirations of the Gharib (poor), Mahila (women), Yuva (youth), and Annadata (farmers) will be the most important areas of focus in the 2024 interim budget.

Overview Of Budget 2024

The Government of India (GOI) has also offered to add more houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The new 2 crore beneficiaries will avail the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The Indian Finance Minister launched a set of schemes for the country’s female citizens. To promote tourism in India, the budget also provides long-term loans to state authorities for the development of the state.

Budget 2024 Highlights the Sector Wise

  • 2 crore more houses will be built under PM Awas Yojana (Gramin) in the next five years.
  • The target for setting up Lakhpati Didi has been increased from Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore.
  • The Capital Expenditure Outlay for FY 2024-25 has been increased by 11.1 percent to Rs. Rs 11,11,111 crore.
  • 40,000 regular train coaches will be converted to Vande Bharat standards.
  • Vaccination to prevent cervical cancer.
  • The government will provide 300 units of free electricity to over 1 crore households in India.
  • The Union Budget 2024 did not introduce any changes in income tax slabs.
  • The Minister of Finance did not present any changes to direct or indirect taxes, including import taxes.
  • To improve tourism, the Union Budget also provides interest-free loans to state authorities.
  • To increase air connectivity, the government has launched 517 new routes which will be launched under the Udan scheme.
  • To improve passenger train operations, the Finance Minister announced three major economic programs for railway corridors – energy, mineral, and cement corridors, port connectivity corridors, and high-traffic density corridors.
  • The fiscal deficit in fiscal year 2025 is expected to reach 5.1% of GDP. The goal is to reduce the fiscal deficit to less than 4.5% of GDP in the period 2025-2026.
  • The adjusted fiscal deficit is 5.8% of GDP for the period 2023-2024 (fiscal year 2024).
  • The FM proposed extending the time limit for certain tax benefits for startups and investments made by SWFs/pension funds, and tax exemption for certain units of IFSC expiring on March 31, 2024. The same has been extended to March 31, 2025.
