Details of the Indira Gandhi National Pension Scheme
The Indira Gandhi National Pension Scheme is a non-contributory scheme launched by the Ministry of Rural Development of India, to provide pensions to people over the age of 60, who live below the Poverty Line (BPL). It is a social pension scheme and part of the National Social Assistance Program (NSAP). The scheme provides a monthly income to citizens or refugees over the age of 60, who do not have any other source of income.
The Ministry of Rural Development of India introduced the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pensions Scheme (IGNOAPS) under the National Social Assistance Program (NSAP) in 2007. IGNOAPS is also called the National Old Age Pensions Scheme (NOAPS). The old-age pension scheme aims to provide social protection for those who are entitled to it.
