The West Bengal government has launched the Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme in West Bengal to provide basic income support to female heads of households. Through this laxmi scheme, the government will provide Rs 500 per month to general category families and Rs 1,000 per month to SC/ST families. Nearly 1.6 crore households in West Bengal will benefit from this scheme. The scheme was launched by taking into account the average monthly household consumption expenditure in the state of Rs 5,249. With the help of financial support provided through this scheme, 10% to 20% of the beneficiary’s monthly expenditure will be covered. The benefit amount under this scheme will be directly deposited in the bank account of the beneficiaries. As we all know many women head their families. However, due to various family responsibilities, they are unable to invest money to meet their expenses. Adequate financial support will be available to all female residents regardless of their caste and category. 1.6 crore families will be benefited through the development of the system. The cash fund will be transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiaries and all families belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category can apply for this scheme through the official website or by visiting the CS Centre. The main goal of developing the scheme is to provide support to female residents.

West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme Rules and Guidelines

• Beneficiaries can obtain a free application form from government camps held across the state.
• All applicants are required to submit all the required documents which include an Aadhar card, and bank passbook along with the application form.
• Those families with at least one taxpayer cannot apply under this scheme.
• Women from the general category who have more than two hectares of land cannot also apply under this scheme.
• The benefit amount will be deposited directly into the beneficiary’s bank account. The beneficiary’s Aadhaar number must be linked to the bank account.
• Women from West Bengal who are permanent residents and aged between 25 to 60 years can apply under this scheme.
• Women who have permanent jobs in the private and government sectors cannot benefit from this scheme.
