Mahiti Kanaja is a single-window unified web portal that empowers citizens to know how public funds are being spent for the overall development of the State and its people. It is a web disclosure portal that enables the Government of Karnataka to comply with the Right to Information Act, particularly Section 4(2) of the Act which states – “It shall be a constant endeavor of every public authority to provide as much information suo moto to the public at regular intervals through various means of communications, including internet so that the public have minimum resort to the use of this Act to obtain information.
The Government believes that transparency is an integral element of a healthy democracy. Informed and empowered citizens can play a tremendous role in state government reaching the ideals of good governance. This portal enables every citizen the right to know details of how Government Departments are utilizing public funds and discloses details of beneficiaries and expenditures. The Government believes that once citizens are vigilant and aware of public spending, they will ensure that decisions regarding the use of public funds at the Village, Block, District, and State levels are more efficient and appropriate.
