The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the National Logistics Policy (राष्ट्रीय लॉजिस्टिक्स नीति) which aims to remove gridlocks in the movement of goods, reduce logistics costs and introduce a unified system that supports technology across supply chains.

The policy sets out a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, cross-sectoral, interdisciplinary, and comprehensive policy framework for the logistics sector. While the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan aims to develop integrated infrastructure, the National Logistics Policy is envisaged to achieve efficiency in logistics and human resources through streamlining processes, regulatory framework, skills development, mainstreaming of logistics in higher education, and adoption of appropriate technologies.

• To reduce the cost of logistics in India to be comparable with global standards by 2030.

The National Logistics Policy (नई राष्ट्रीय रसद नीति) was developed through a consultative process in which several rounds of consultations were held with various ministries/departments of the Government of India, industry stakeholders, and academia, keeping in mind global best practices.

Features of National Logistical Policy:

• Digital Integration System: This will enable smooth and fast work to ensure effective and effective logistical services.
• Unified Logistics Interface Platform: aims to bring all digital services to the logistical services and transportation sector to one gate, thus liberating manufacturers and exporters from current problems such as long and exhausting operations.

EGoS will also create a Network Planning Group (NPG)-style “Service Improvement Group” (SIG) to monitor parameters related to operations and organizational and digital improvements in the logistics sector that are not covered by the NPG’s mandate.

This policy paves the way for reducing logistics costs in the country. The focus will be on enabling appropriate warehouse development with optimal spatial planning, enhancing standards, digitization, and automation across the logistics value chain, and improving tracking and tracing mechanisms.

Further measures to facilitate smooth coordination among various stakeholders and rapid problem resolution, simplified EXIM processes, and human resource development to create an employable pool of skilled workforce, have also been put into policy.

This policy sets a clear direction for transforming the logistics sector in India, improving logistics efficiency, reducing logistics costs, and improving global performance.
