TN Government Marriage Assistance Schemes / அரசு திருமண உதவித் திட்டங்கள் / तमिलनाडु सरकार विवाह सहायता योजना are implemented in Tamil Nadu 2024 by the state government. Seven (7) marriage assistance Schemes are being implemented to help the daughters of poor fathers, orphan girls, widows who remarry, widow’s daughter marriage, and inter-class couples. Government Marriage Assistance schemes in TN are primarily designed to ensure that no parent incurs debts due to their daughter’s marriage. The Government of Tamil Nadu has invited TN Marriage Assistance Schemes 2023-24 to apply online forms to help poor parents/orphan girls/widow daughters of inter-caste couples/widow remarriage.

In most communities, it is a customary cultural requirement that a girl wears a gold “Thirumangalyam” during the marriage. Parents celebrate marriage according to their customs and cultural backgrounds. However, fathers from economically weak divisions are unable to bear the expense burden towards their daughters’ marriage.

Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Ninaivu Marriage Assistance Scheme

Scheme Objectives: Helping poor fathers to marry off their daughters and enhancing the educational status of poor girls.

Assistance provided:

  • Scheme-I: Provided 25,000 rupees in financial assistance and an 8 gm (22 carats) gold coin for the making of the thirumangalyam.
  • Scheme-II: 50,000 rupees in financial aid and as of 23.05.2016, and 8g (22 carats) gold coin is provided for making thirumangalyam.

Eligibility Criteria:

Scheme-I:

  • The bride must have studied the 10th Std (Passed or Failed)
  • The bride must pass the 10th Std if she has studied through special education or via distance learning.
  • The bride must have studied up to V Std in disadvantaged tribal conditions.

Scheme-II:

  • Degree holders from regular colleges, and distance education / open universities recognized by the government are eligible.
  • Diploma holders must be holders of a diploma from institutions recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu.

General criteria:

  • Annual income does not exceed Rs. 72000 / – for the family.
  • Only one girl from the family is eligible.
  • The bride must have completed 18 years of age at the time of marriage. There is no upper age limit.

Certificates to be attached to the application:

  • A copy of the school transfer certificate.
  • A copy of the X std Mark- sheet for the first scheme.
  • A copy of the degree/diploma certificate for aid claim under the second scheme.
  • Income certificate.
  • An invitation to marry (within 40 days before the date of marriage. Only in exceptional circumstances can applications be accepted one day before the marriage).

Dr. Dharmambal Ammaiyar Ninaivu Widow Remarriage Assistance Scheme

Scheme Objectives: Encouraging widow remarriage and rehabilitating widows.

Assistance provided:

  • Scheme-I: 25,000 rupees (15,000 Financial Assistance and 10,000 rupees as a National Savings Certificate) and as of May 23, 2016, an 8 gm (22 carats) gold coin is provided for making thromangeliam.
  • Scheme-II: 50,000 rupees (30,000 rupees Financial Assistance and 20,000 rupees as a national savings certificate) and from the date of 23.05.2016, an 8 gm (22 carats) gold coin is provided for making thiomangliam.

Eligibility Criteria:

Scheme-I:

  • Educational qualification is not required.

Scheme-II:

  • Degree holders from regular colleges, and distance education / open universities recognized by the government are eligible.
  • Diploma holders must be qualified from institutions recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu.

General:

  • There is no limit to income.
  • The bride must have turned 20 years old at marriage. 40 is the upper age limit.

Certificates to be attached to the application:

Scheme objectives: To assist poor widows who faced financial difficulties in contracting the marriage of their daughters by providing assistance to their daughters’ marriage.

Assistance provided:

  • Scheme-I: 25,000 rupees in Financial Assistance and as of 23.05.2016, and 8 gm (22 carats) gold coin is provided for making thirumangalyam.
  • Scheme-II: 50,000 rupees in Financial Assistance as of 23.05.2016, and 8 g (22 karats) gold coin is provided for making thirumangalyam.

Scheme objectives: To help orphan girls financially get married.

Assistance provided:

  • Scheme-I: 25,000 rupees in Financial Assistance and as of 23.05.2016, and 8 gm (22 karats) gold coin is provided for making thirumangalyam.
  • Scheme-II: 50,000 rupees in Financial Assistance as of 23.05.2016, and 8 g (22 karats) gold coin is provided for making thirumangalyam.

Eligibility Criteria:

Scheme-I:

  • Educational qualification is not required.

Scheme-II:

  • Degree holders from regular colleges, distance education / open universities recognized by the government are eligible.
  • Diploma holders must be qualified from institutions recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu.

General:

  • There is no limit to income.
  • Only one girl from the family is eligible.
  • The bride must have completed 18 years of age at the time of marriage.

Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Ninavu Intercaste Marriage Assistance Scheme

Scheme objectives: Eliminate caste and societal sentiments based on childbirth and eliminate discrimination through the promotion of inter-class marriage.

Assistance/Help provided:

  • Scheme-I: Rs 25,000 (Rs 15,000 Financial Assistance and Rs 10,000 as National Savings Certificate) and as of the date of 23.05.2016, and 8 gm (22 carats) gold coin is provided for making thirumangalyam.
  • Scheme-II: 50,000 rupees (30,000 rupees financial Assistance and 20,000 rupees as a national savings certificate) and as of 23.05.2016, and 8-g (22-karat) gold coin was made available for making thirumangalyam.

Eligibility Criteria:

The following two categories of intercourse marriage can take advantage of the benefits: –

First Category: Assistance is provided to newlyweds in which one of the spouses must be from the scheduled caste/tribe and the other from a different community.
Second Category: Assistance is provided to a newly married couple who is from another community (forward community) and the other is from the Backward / most backward class community.

Scheme I:

  • Educational qualification is not required.

Scheme II:

  • Degree holders from regular colleges, and distance education / open universities recognized by the government are eligible.
  • Diploma holders must be qualified from institutions recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu.

General:

  • There is no limit to income.
  • The bride must have completed 18 years of age at the time of marriage. There is a maximum age limit.
  • Within two years from the date of marriage.

Certificates to be attached to the application:

  • Marriage invitation or marriage registration certificate.
  • Society testimonials for the bride and the bride.
  • Bride’s age certificate.
  • Degree/diploma certificates for claiming aid under Scheme-2.

Girl Child Protection Scheme

Promote girls’ education, eliminate female infanticide, discourage preference for the male child, strengthen the small family base, enhance the well-being of girls in poor families, and raise the status of girls.

Assistance Provided:

  • Scheme-I: Rs 50,000 / – Fixed Deposit in the name of the girl for a family with only one child. (The interest amount is awarded annually to the child from the sixth year of deposit).
  • Scheme-II: Rs 25,000 / – Fixed Deposit for each child as the family only has two children. (The interest amount is paid annually for the child of the sixth year of the deposit)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Either parent must undergo sterilization within 35 years.
  • The family must have one / two girl children.
  • There is no male child in the family and no male child should be adopted in the future.
  • Parents/grandparents must be in Tamil Nadu residence for 10 years at the time of application.

Scheme I:

  • The application must be submitted before the child reaches the age of three.

Scheme II:

  • The application must be submitted before the second child reaches the age of three.
  • Annual income does not exceed Rs. 72000 / – for the family.

Certificates to be attached to the application:

  • Childbirth certificate (Corporation /Taluk office /Municipality office).
  • Evidence of parental age.
  • Sterilization certificate.
  • Annual certificate of income not exceeding Rs. 72000 / – for the family.
  • Certificate of absence of a male child.
  • Birth certificate.

Sathiyavani Muthu Ammaiyar Ninaivu Free Supply of Sewing Machine Scheme

Scheme objectives: Sewing machines are provided free of charge to increase the potential for self-employment to rehabilitate needy women/widows, abandoned wives, men and women of different abilities, and socially affected women and women from economically weaker sections.

Assistance/Help provided: Sewing machine and accessories

For whom is entitled to benefit:

  • Needy women/widows, abandoned wives, men and women of different abilities, socially affected women, and women from the weakest economic sectors.
  • Must know about sewing.
  • The applicant must have completed 20 years of age at the time of application and must not exceed 40 years as the maximum age.

Certificates to be attached to the application:

  • Demilitarized/deserted / widow / different capabilities certificate
  • Family Income Certificate (less than Rs 72,000)
  • Sewing course certificate for 6 months
  • Caste Certificate
  • A photo of the applicant
